On January 4th, 2025, three of our 8889 teams competed at the High Stakes Winter Classic held at Mashpee Middle High School. The day was nothing short of extraordinary, filled with excitement, strategy, and success for everyone involved!
The tournament’s most thrilling moment came when 8889B, allied with 8889S, faced off in the finals against 8889X and its alliance partner, 20203Z Robo Turtle. For many of our team members, this was the first time competing against each other outside of club scrimmages, making it a fantastic opportunity to test and refine alliance strategies in a competitive setting.
In a hard-fought match, 8889B and 8889S emerged victorious, earning 8889S a spot at the Massachusetts Regional Championship! Adding to the excitement, 8889S also won the Excellence Award, which doubled their qualification and secured 8889X’s spot at Regionals. Despite finishing as runners-up, 8889X—a team comprised entirely of LHS seniors—achieved the No. 1 skills ranking at the event, a testament to their hard work and dedication.
This unforgettable day was especially meaningful for members participating in their first-ever tournament with the club. The camaraderie, teamwork, and shared experiences made the day even more special. Now, with this milestone, we are thrilled to announce that all five 8889 teams have officially qualified for the Massachusetts Regional Championship in February 2025!
With Regionals on the horizon, our teams are already looking ahead to the ultimate goal: the World Championship. Through their dedication, innovation, and teamwork, they will continue exploring, improving, and advancing in their robotics journey.
