Big Win Last Year, Big Lesson This Year — Team 8889A
Team 8889A faced a whirlwind of preparation after being unexpectedly removed from WAVE’s waiting list on Monday and rushed into action for this signature event. With limited time, the team chose to take on the challenge by debuting their newly designed robot and freshly developed autonomous algorithm.
The team worked tirelessly to fine-tune their bot, focusing on increased speed and more complex autonomous code. They were so immersed in robotics that it even followed them into their dreams!
However, surprises can go both ways. Despite their hard work, 8889A ranked 34th. They were honored to be picked by the 1st seed, 10102A from Vinic Robotics (ironically, their old team number from middle school), heading into eliminations. Their journey ended in the second round against Texas champion teams who ultimately became finalists of the signature event.
Undeterred, the teammates reflected on their performance during the ride back to the club. They remain confident in their robot’s potential and are determined to improve. Their new bot is just beginning its journey, and the team is more motivated than ever to keep pushing forward!
Congratulations to Void and Zero Gravity for winning the tournament championship and qualifying for the World Championship in May 2025.
First Match and First Big Win — Team 8889C
Our middle school team, 8889C, made an impressive debut at their first VRC match at Walsh Middle School in Framingham, MA. Excitement filled the air as both team members and parents eagerly anticipated the event.
James, the team’s driver and a former hockey player, showcased his incredible driving skills, leading the team to become finalists in the middle school group!
This event marked a fantastic start for 8889C. It’s a memory that will stay with the boys throughout their VEX journey, inspiring them to grow and achieve even more in the future.
First Award for a New Team — Team 8889B
Team 8889B, newly formed with just two teammates, had their first competition outing this weekend. Despite being a fresh team, they performed remarkably well, winning the Creative Award at this local event.
This achievement is a promising start for 8889B, and we’re hopeful they’ll continue to work hard and stay on course for the World Championship. Congratulations on a fantastic beginning!
